Run For Blue 2024

On the 7th of July, the school pitches came alive as sixth formers from various schools across England gathered for the Blue Dragon Fun Run. We are thrilled to share the success of this event, which we dedicated to raising funds and awareness for Blue Dragon, a Vietnamese charity tackling human trafficking and aiding street children. Through this initiative, we aim to raise £100,000 in 2024. So far, we have raised over £70,000 for the charity and aim to reach our targets in the upcoming months.

The fun run, held Ludgrove School, saw over 200 participants, including students, families, and local residents, coming together in support of this noble cause. Participants enjoyed a 7.5km route, with the day filled with activities, music, and food stalls, creating a carnival-like environment that brought the community closer. Blue Dragon, founded in 2003, rescues and cares for victims of human trafficking and children at risk, such as street children, kids with disabilities, and those from impoverished families. They provide emergency responses and prevent trafficking through education, family livelihoods, community training, and law advocacy. Our event aimed not only to raise money but also to build a strong network of sixth formers, giving everyone a chance to learn about global issues and engage in meaningful fundraising. This initiative highlighted the power of youth activism and its potential to impact global challenges.

In addition to the run, participants had the chance to win exciting prizes provided by our generous sponsors, including trips to Vietnam, where they could explore different cultures and witness firsthand the impact of their efforts. This added an element of excitement and motivation for everyone involved, who eagerly awaited the announcement of the winners. In the end, Alex Holmes came first in the race for the boys in lightning speed with a time of 29 minutes and 36 seconds. Jemima Davies came first for the girls and impressed with a time of 35 minutes and 34 seconds. The top fundraiser prize went to Edward Elliott who managed to individually raise £1,150 on JustGiving for the charity. Finally, the anticipated grand raffle prize of a car was given to Finn Rowe. A huge congratulations to all the winners and everyone who came to race!

The Blue Dragon Fun Run successfully raised over £10,000 on the day, with donations still coming in. We’re incredibly grateful to all participants, sponsors, and volunteers who made the event possible. We emphasize the importance of continuing support for Blue Dragon and hope to make this an annual event, uniting communities and creating lasting change. This event not only demonstrated the generosity and community spirit of everyone involved but also provided a platform for young people like us to contribute to a cause larger than ourselves, fostering a sense of global citizenship and empathy. The success of the Blue Dragon Fun Run is a testament to the power of collective action and the difference it can make in the lives of vulnerable children in Vietnam.

We hope to see everyone again next year along with a lot of new faces joining us on the journey to make a difference!
